Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – September 22, 2010 **UPDATE / September 24, 2010** Additional investigation by Louisiana State Police detectives revealed that Fontenot solicited sex from a 15-year-old female by using his cell phone to send text messages. The text messages were sexual in nature, and Fontenot arranged to meet with the girl next week to have sexual intercourse. An arrest warrant was issued on Fontenot from Evangeline Parish for computer-aided solicitation of a minor (LRS14:81.3). On September 23, 2010, Fontenot was located and arrested in Allen Parish by the Allen Parish Sheriff's Office. He was booked into the Allen Parish Jail without incident and his transfer to the Evangeline Parish Jail is pending. State Police Arrest Basile Resident for Child Pornography The owner of the computer, 22-year-old Daris Fontenot of Basile, admitted to downloading child pornography. He was arrested for pornography involving juveniles (LRS 14:81.1) and booked into the Evangeline Parish jail. This arrest is part of the ongoing program called Operation Child Watch. The purpose of this program is to rescue children from the potential abuse of child predators who prey on the innocence of a child. Louisiana State Police Superintendant Colonel Michael Edmonson believes strongly in this effort and stated, “The State Police stands firm with proactive efforts deploying every available resource to intercept and arrest those who choose to engage in this type of illegal activity.
