Head-on Collision South of DeQuincy Kills Two

DEQUINCY – This morning, at 6:15 a.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle head-on crash on Louisiana Highway 27 (milepost 98) near its intersection with Holbrook Park Road south of DeQuincy in Calcasieu Parish. The crash claimed the life of both drivers and injured 3 passengers.

According to investigating troopers, a 2009 Ford F-350 driven by 26-year-old Frank Angelle, Jr. of Opelousas, LA was traveling north on Louisiana Highway 27 when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Ford F-150 driven by 36-year-old Anthony L. Jackson of DeQuincy head-on. Angelle was wearing a seat belt. Jackson was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle. Both drivers sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

There were three passengers traveling with Angelle who were also injured. Keith W. Mackmel, 26, of Ellisville, MS received serious injuries and remains in critical condition in an area hospital. Dusty Bass, 24, of Laurel, MS received moderate injuries and also remains hospitalized. Timothy Bass, 26, also of Laurel MS, received minor injuries and was released from a local hospital. No passengers were traveling with Jackson.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Troop D troopers have investigated 21 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 25 fatalities.
