Edmonson, Superintendent Troop D News Release October 7, 2010 Fatal Crash in Beauregard Parish This morning, at 5:51 a.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash on LA 3226 @ Taylor Rd. in Beauregard Parish. An 18-wheeler driven by 57-year-old Gregory P. Whittington of Merryville was traveling east on Taylor Road and stopped for a stop sign located at LA 3226. Whittington then turned north onto LA 3226. A 2006 GMC driven by 42-year-old Pamela R. Hernandez of DeRidder was traveling north on LA 3226 and struck the rear of the 18-wheeler north of the intersection. Hernandez was alert and speaking at the scene but died of internal injuries while being transported to a Lake Charles hospital. Whittington was not injured. Alcohol use on the part of Hernandez is suspected to be a factor in the crash and she was not wearing a seat belt. Blood samples were taken from both drivers for analysis and the crash remains under investigation. Troop D troopers have investigated 17 fatal crashes for the year of 2010, resulting in 20 fatalities. Contact Information: | |||
