Roadside Safety Checkpoint in Calcasieu Parish

GILLIS – Today Louisiana State Police Troop D conducted a roadside safety checkpoint on Topsy Road east of U.S. 171 in Calcasieu Parish from 07:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Troopers were actively looking for vehicles that were not insured as well as safety issues. During the checkpoint, 215 vehicles were screened.

A total of 14 license plates were seized when drivers failed to provide proof of insurance. In addition, 9 citations were issued for improper or defective equipment (safety chains, no tail lights, window tint, bald tires, and wide tires), 5 citations were issued for expired motor vehicle inspection decals, 4 were issued for expired license plates, and 1 driver was cited for driving under suspension.

Roadside safety checkpoints are periodically conducted by Louisiana State Police Troop D to help insure you and your family are safe on area roadways.
