LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release August 10, 2008 Fatality Crash in Calcasieu Parish On August 10, 2008 at 1:49 PM, Louisiana State Police – Troop D investigated a one-vehicle, fatality crash on U.S. Hwy 90, milepost 6 (west of Vinton), in Calcasieu Parish. The crash occurred when a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by a 15- year old female from Sulphur, LA, was traveling east on U.S. Hwy 90. The Trailblazer departed the right side of the roadway when the driver apparently overcorrected the vehicle, which caused the SUV to travel across U.S. Hwy 90. The vehicle overturned in the ditch and struck several trees before it came to rest. The driver and two passengers were transported to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital and Lake Charles Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. As a result of the injuries suffered in the crash, 20 year old Matthew Brown of Orange, Texas and 12 year old Savannah Hickman of Sulphur, LA were pronounced deceased at the scene. It is unknown at this time if impairment was a factor; however, routine toxicology tests are pending. The driver and all four passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Charges are currently pending. This year, Troop D has investigated twenty-one (21) crashes that have resulted in twenty-four (24) deaths. FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT
