NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 16, 2008 - Fatal Crash (Calcasieu Parish) On March 16, 2008, at 4:50 p.m., State Police Troop D investigated a fatality crash involving two vehicles. The crash was located on LA 397 and Ward Line Road, south of Lake Charles, LA. in Calcasieu Parish. The crash occurred when a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, driven by 79 year old Gervis A. Conner, of Creole, LA. was traveling south on Ward Line Road. A 2006 Nissan Maxima, driven by 51 year old Debra Billings, of Cameron, LA. was traveling east on LA 397, when the Lincoln Town Car ran the stop sign at the intersection and was struck by the 2006 Nissan Maxima. The passenger in the Lincoln Town car, Leola V. Conner 72, of Creole, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan Maxima, Debra Billings and the driver of the Lincoln Town Car, Gervis A. Conner were transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Lake Charles with moderate injuries. Gervis A. Conner was issued a citation for Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign. This is the 8th fatal crash investigated by State Police Troop D this year. Trooper Chris Hill investigated the crash.
