NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: S/T Sal Messina Louisiana State Police Public Affairs – Troop D (337) 491-2932- Office February 23, 2008 - Second Single Vehicle Fatality Crash in Beauregard Parish (Deridder, LA) On Friday, February 22, 2008, at 10:00 p.m., Troop D investigated another fatality crash involving one vehicle. The crash was located on LA 1146 milepost 1.4, just east of Deridder in Beauregard Parish. The crash occurred when a 1999 Chevrolet pickup traveling west on LA 1146 failed to negotiate a right hand curve. The driver of the vehicle traveled off of the roadway and crashed into a tree. The driver, 42 year old Robert Bates of Westlake, was pronounced deceased on the scene from injuries he suffered in the crash. Bates was not wearing a seatbelt. Impairment is suspected at this time and standard toxicology tests are pending. The crash was investigated by Tpr Jordan Mayer. Assisting in the investigation was Sgt Kevin Manuel and S/T Joey Adaway.. This is the fifth person to die in fatality crash investigated by Troop D this year. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment! Drive Impaired Get Arrested"
