Deridder Man Loses Life in Single Vehicle Crash

(Dry Creek, LA) On Friday, February 22, 2008, at 3:30 a.m., Troop D investigated a fatality crash involving one vehicle. The crash was located on LA 394 milepost 14.8, just south of Dry Creek in Beauregard Parish. The crash occurred when a 1996 Jeep traveling east on LA 394 approached a left hand curve. While negotiating the curve, the driver of the vehicle traveled off of the roadway on the right. The driver over steered while attempting to get back onto the roadway which caused the driver to loose control of the vehicle. The vehicle flipped onto a large corner post, causing the top of the vehicle to be crushed.

The driver, 48 year old Russell Leyser of Deridder, was pronounced deceased on the scene from injuries he suffered in the crash. Impairment is not suspected on Leyser at this time and standard toxicology tests are pending.

The crash was investigated by TFC James Haugen. Assisting in the investigation was Lt Robert Broussard. This is the fourth person to die in fatality crash investigated by Troop D this year.
