| NEWS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: S/T Sal Messina Louisiana State Police Public Affairs – Troop D (337) 491-2932- Office (337) 219-2466- Pager February 6, 2008 - Pursuit with Eunice Man Ends in Arrest (Lake Charles, LA) - On Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 6:50 a.m., the Lake Charles City Police Department contacted the Louisiana State Police for assistance in a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 10 eastbound between Lake Charles and Iowa. The city police attempted to pull the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis over because of switched license plates on the car. Trooper Joey Babineaux joined in the pursuit on Interstate 10 east bound, mile post 47, just west of Lacassine. The vehicle traveled to approximately milepost 50, drove through the center median, and traveled back west bound and took exit 48. As the pursuit continued north on LA 101, Lt Tim LaFleur positioned his state police vehicle at the intersection of LA 101 and US 165. Lt LaFleur deployed his spike strips just east of the intersection near the railroad tracks. The pursued vehicle made contact with the spike strips on its front left tire and the tire began to deflate after contact with the spike strip. The pursued vehicle continued north on US 165 and the deflated tire began coming apart several miles north of the intersection. The vehicle hit spike strips again at the Kinder city limit line which were deployed by Kinder City Police Department. The pursued vehicle was disabled just north of the city limit line. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot, but was apprehended seconds later. The driver, 31 year old Calvin Joseph Williams of Eunice, LA was arrested and booked into the Allen Parish Jail with the following charges: 2 counts of Aggravated Flight From An Officer (in both J.D. & Allen Parish); Aggravated Assault; Speeding 115/55; Speeding In A Construction Zone; Crossing the Median; Passing on the Shoulder; 2 counts of Switched License Plates (J.D. & Allen). Bail is set at $20,000.00 with more charges pending. Williams also received charges from other agencies. Agencies involved in the pursuit were Lake Charles City Police Department, Louisiana State Police-Troop D; Jefferson Davis Sheriff's Department, Allen Parish Sheriff’s Department and Kinder City Police Department. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment!
