Interstate 10 Fatality Crash

(Vinton, LA) On Sunday, January 20, 2008, at 5:50 a.m., Troop D investigated a fatality crash involving one vehicle. The crash was located on Interstate 10 milepost 9.5, just east of Vinton in Calcasieu Parish. The crash occurred when the driver of a 2002 Ford Expedition traveling east on Interstate 10 struck a guardrail facing on the right side of the roadway and veered into the median. It vehicle flipped several times. All three of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle. The driver was wearing his seatbelt improperly and was ejected from the vehicle. The passengers received moderate injuries.
The driver, 20 year old Saul Rodriguez of Vinton, was pronounced deceased on the scene from injuries he suffered in the crash. Impairment is unknown on Mr. Rodriguez at this time and standard toxicology tests are pending.
The crash was investigated by Tpr Jordan Mayer. Assisting in the investigation was Sgt Chris Guillory and Tpr Gary Smith. This is the second person to die in fatality crash investigated by Troop D this year.
