Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – March 16, 2009 State Police Raid Illegal Cockfighting Operation On March 14, 2009, the Louisiana State Police Gaming Enforcement Section concluded a four month investigation into an illegal cockfighting operation in Sulphur, La. Troopers conducted a raid on the suspected cockfighting operation compound called the “Little Bayou Club” on Saturday, during the afternoon hours. At approximately 3:00 PM Saturday, troopers from around the state raided the “Little Bayou Club” compound as illegal cockfighting was being waged. During the search of the compound, Investigators located over 600 birds that were part of the illegal operation and processed over 250 spectators, who were attending the illegal event. Investigators also seized over 50,000.00 dollars, which is money suspected to part of the illegal operation. Since the cockfighting law went into effect in 2008, this is the first raid on an illegal cockfighting operation in Louisiana. The raid resulted in the following misdemeanor arrest charges: 2 charges of Illegal Gambling or Wagering at Cockfights 12 charges of Cockfighting 23 charges of Contributing to the delinquency of Juveniles The investigation continues by the Louisiana Gaming Enforcement Section.
