Edmonson, Superintendent News Release December 13, 2008 Fatality in Calcasieu Parish On December 13, 2008 at 12:50 AM, Louisiana State Police – Troop D investigated a two-vehicle, fatality crash on Interstate 10 mile post 2 (West of Vinton) in Calcasieu Parish. Vinton Police Department Officer Michael Wright conducted a routine traffic stop on a 2008 Chevrolet SUV in the town of Vinton. The driver of the 2008 Chevrolet stopped his vehicle on the roadway, refused to get out of his vehicle and drove off. Vinton Police Officer Michael Wright and Vinton Police Officer Michael Perez pursued the 2008 Chevrolet SUV through the town of Vinton. While being pursued by the Vinton Police Department, The 2008 Chevrolet SUV entered Interstate 10 at mile post 4 the wrong way, and was traveling west on Interstate 10 in the eastbound lane of travel. During the pursuit, the 2008 Chevrolet SUV traveling the wrong way on Interstate 10 struck a 2008 Chevrolet Passenger car, driven by 46-year-old Johnny Ray Sims of Missouri city, Texas, who was traveling east on Interstate 10 in the correct direction. As a result of injuries suffered in the crash, two passengers in the 2008 Chevrolet passenger car, 68-year-old, Celestine H. Hinton of Missouri City, Texas and 49-year-old, Frances A. Hodge of Missouri City, Texas was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the 2008 Chevrolet passenger car, Johnny Ray Sims was transported to West-Calcasieu Cameron hospital with severe injuries. The driver of the 2008 Chevrolet SUV, who led police on the pursuit was pronounced deceased at the scene and has not been identified. State Police are still investigating and are awaiting DNA results to the identity the driver. Impairment is unknown; however, routine toxicology tests are pending. For More Information contact: | |||
