Lake Charles man arrested for forging OMV receipt

Lake Charles- Yesterday, troopers assigned to the Lake Charles field office of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations located and arrested 38-year-old Cornell Johnson of Lake Charles for forgery and for outstanding warrants.

In early November management at a Lake Charles area casino discovered that Johnson, who was employed as one of their limousine drivers, had a suspended driver’s license. Johnson was instructed by management to get his license reinstated.

On November 4, 2011, Johnson forged a receipt on a Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) letterhead showing that his driver's license had been reinstated and provided it to his employer. The OMV was contacted and it was discovered that Johnson's driver's license was still under suspension and the document that Johnson presented to his employer was forged.

An arrest warrant was obtained for forgery. It was discovered that Johnson also had three outstanding Calcasieu Parish arrest warrants for issuing worthless checks with the intent to defraud.

Yesterday, Johnson was located and placed under arrest for the warrants. Johnson was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

If convicted of forgery, Johnson could face up to 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine in addition to the other charges against him.
