News Release – Troop D December 2, 2011 Fatal crash in Calcasieu Parish On December 1, 2011, at 6:30 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3059 one mile west of Louisiana Highway 383 in Calcasieu Parish near the Jefferson Davis Parish line that claimed the life of a Kinder woman. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Chrysler driven by 68-year-old Joyce W. Quebodeaux of LeBlanc was traveling south on LA 3059 when she failed to negotiate a 90 degree curve to the left. The vehicle exited the roadway, entered a deep ditch, and struck an embankment. Quebodeaux suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash. The sole passenger in Quebodeaux’s vehicle, 82-year-old Esther Durio of Kinder, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and died at the scene. Both occupants were wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol or drug use is not suspected. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Inattentive and distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes in our state. Motorists should always pay close attention to the roadway and drive with care.
