News Release – Troop D December 5, 2011 School bus crash in Allen Parish causes minor injuries On December 5, 2011, at 3:52 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus on U. S. Highway 165 at Parish Line Road in Allen Parish about 2 ½ miles south of Kinder. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Blue Bird school bus driven by 55-year-old Verna J. Mancilla was traveling west on Parish Line Road when she failed to yield to a southbound 2007 Dodge Caravan, which resulted in the van striking the bus. Three students in the school bus and two occupants in the Dodge van sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. Mancilla was issued a citation for failure to yield. The crash remains under investigation. Inattentive and distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes in our state. Motorists should always be attentive behind the wheel and drive with care.
