News Release – Troop D December 22, 2011 Troopers discover 116 pounds of marijuana during I-10 traffic stop Yesterday, a state trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D stopped a 2012 Jeep Liberty on Interstate 10 east bound near Welsh (mile marker 50) in Jefferson Davis Parish for a traffic violation and located 116 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, 32-year-old Sylvester Leroy Stubbs, Jr. of Picayune, Mississippi, refused to grant permission for a search of his vehicle. Another trooper was summoned to the scene and utilized his K-9 partner “Hugo” around the exterior of the vehicle. The dog alerted, indicating that drugs were inside the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 5 large bales of marijuana inside the rear cargo area of the vehicle. The total weight of the marijuana was 116 pounds and has an estimated street value of $116,000. Stubbs was booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish jail for following too closely, driving with a suspended license, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Contact Information: Sgt.
