News Release – Troop D October 8, 2011 Crash in Beauregard Parish kills Texas woman DeRidder-Yesterday afternoon at about 4:34 p.m., troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 26 3½ miles east of U.S. 171 in Beauregard Parish that claimed the life of a Texas woman. Investigating troopers report that a 2008 Toyota Camry driven by 62-year-old Julia Esteves of Diboll, TX was traveling west on LA 26 when, for unknown reasons, she drove left of the center line and sideswiped an eastbound 18-wheeler driven by 31-year-old Hubert Strother of Pitkin, LA. After impact, Esteves’s vehicle came to rest in a nearby ditch. Esteves was transported from the scene by air ambulance to a Lake Charles hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in her vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. Strother was not injured. At 3:03 a.m. this morning, Esteves succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Alcohol and drug use are not suspected and a routine toxicology sample will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The investigation is continuing. While the exact cause of this crash is yet to be determined, inattentive and distracted driving are leading causes of crashes in our state.
