| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – Troop D March 18, 2011 Four Vehicle Crash North of Sulphur Kills Longville Woman SULPHUR - This afternoon, at 1:50 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a four vehicle fatal crash on Louisiana Highway 27 (milepost 90) on the bridge over Houston River, north of Houston River Road in Calcasieu Parish. According to investigating troopers, a 2010 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 30-year-old Ashley Nicole Bergeron of Longville, Louisiana, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 27. Prior to the crash, other drivers reported to police that Bergeron was driving in an unsafe manner. Troopers as well as Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were attempting to locate Bergeron’s vehicle when the crash occurred. The vehicle Bergeron was driving crossed the center line and sideswiped two northbound vehicles before colliding with a northbound 2001 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 19-year-old William Clinton White of DeQuincy head-on. Bergeron, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. White was transported by air ambulance to a Lake Charles hospital with moderate injuries. Occupants in the sideswiped vehicles were not injured. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D troopers have investigated 2 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 2 fatalities. In 2009, 65 percent of vehicle occupants killed in Louisiana crashes were not properly restrained. Wearing a seatbelt is your best defense. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.
