| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent News Release – Troop D May 28, 2011 Single Vehicle Crash Kills Sulphur Woman WESTLAKE--This morning, at 12:08 a.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 379 west of Westlake in Calcasieu Parish that claimed the life of a Sulphur woman. The crash occurred when a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by 32-year-old Kishia Lynette Lemelle of Sulphur exited a curve and ran off of the road to the right. Lemelle’s vehicle then re-entered the highway and traveled across the roadway into the south ditch where it struck a culvert with the driver’s side door. The vehicle then rolled over onto its roof. Lemelle was the only occupant. Despite wearing a seatbelt, Lemelle sustained fatal injuries due to the severity of the crash. A toxicology sample was obtained from Lemelle and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Although the cause of this crash has not yet been determined, distracted driving is the cause of many crashes in Louisiana.
