Click It or Ticket Seatbelt Checkpoint near Westlake

WESTLAKE—Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D partnered with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office and conducted a seatbelt checkpoint on Louisiana Highway 378 north of Westlake in Calcasieu Parish. Troopers and deputies issued a total of 42 citations.

During the checkpoint, held from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., troopers and deputies issued the following citations:

· Seatbelt – 8
· Expired motor vehicle inspection – 20
· Illegal window tint – 6
· Open container – 1
· Expired license plate – 5
· Smoking in vehicle with child present – 1
· Failure to provide proof of insurance (license plate seized) - 1

The national seatbelt enforcement effort known as Click It or Ticket will continue through June 5. Troopers and other law enforcement officers will be actively looking for individuals who choose not to wear a seatbelt and issuing citations to those individuals.

In 2010, 59 percent of people who lost their lives on Louisiana highways were not properly restrained. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Buckle up Louisiana. Every trip. Every time.

Support for seatbelt checkpoints and roving seatbelt patrols is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
