Beauregard Parish Crash Severely Injures Motorcyclist

FIELDS--This evening, at 7:10 p.m., troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash on Louisiana Highway 109 about 3 miles northeast of the Beauregard Parish community of Fields that sent a Merryville man to an area hospital with severe injuries.

The crash occurred when a northbound 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by 58-year-old Stanley E. Smith of Merryville ran off the right side of the roadway, causing him to be ejected. Smith, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained serious head injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a Lake Charles hospital. Smith has a suspended driver’s license and does not possess a motorcycle endorsement.

A toxicology sample was obtained from Smith and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
