TROOP D NEWS RELEASE March 20, 2019 Pursuit on I-10 from Lake Charles to Lafayette Leads to Arrest of Two Men Lake Charles – Two men were arrested Wednesday morning after leading Louisiana State Police and multiple other law enforcement agencies on a pursuit on Interstate 10 that traveled from Lake Charles to Lafayette. On March 20, 2019, shortly after 8:00 a.m., a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D attempted to stop a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic for a traffic violation on Interstate 10 about 6 miles west of Iowa, LA. The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Keith Anderson Harris of Jeanerette, failed to stop. Harris led Troopers through eastern Calcasieu Parish, Jefferson Davis Parish, Acadia Parish, and into Lafayette. Spike strips were deployed but were unsuccessful. Harris struck two vehicles as he exited I-10 onto Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Harris and the passenger, identified as 28-year-old Qwayland Michael of New Iberia, fled from the moving vehicle towards a nearby hotel. Michael was apprehended in the parking lot of the hotel and Harris was located in a maintenance closet within the hotel. Harris was charged with aggravated flight, resisting by flight, reckless operation (2 counts), hit and run (2 counts), passing on the shoulder, improper lane use, no driver’s license, and no seat belt. Harris was processed at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center before being transported to Lake Charles and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center. Qwayland was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for resisting by flight and for an active warrant. No injuries were reported and no law enforcement vehicles were damaged. The pursuit lasted 65 minutes. The Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s Office, Jennings Police Department, Acadia Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette Police Department, and Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted with the pursuit.
