TROOP D NEWS RELEASE April 28, 2019 Driver and Unrestrained Passenger Dies in Rollover Crash Update: The driver involved in the single-vehicle fatal crash this morning is identified as 52-year-old John J. Mueller of Grand Prairie Texas. Roanoke, LA – Shortly after 3:45 p.m. on April 27, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on I-10 near Roanoke in Jefferson Davis Parish about 5 miles west of Jennings. The crash claimed the life of 76-year-old Hattie K. Minor of Houston Texas and 79-year-old Earnestine B. Bell of Angie, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban SUV driven by Minor was traveling east on I-10 and ran off the left side of the roadway and rolled over several times causing Earnestine Bell to be ejected. Minor and Earnestine Bell sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner’s Office. Minor was properly restrained and Earnestine Bell was not properly restrained. The rear seat passenger, 78-year-old R.S. Burnell of Houston Texas was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was transported to a Jennings area hospital with minor injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt. Contact Information: | |||
