TROOP D NEWS RELEASE April 29, 2019 Crash Involving Tractor Leads to Death of Elton Man Jefferson Davis Parish – Shortly before 1:45 p.m. on April 29, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on US Hwy 165 near Atterberry Road in Jefferson Davis Parish about 6 ½ miles north of US Hwy 90. The crash claimed the life of 78-year-old Eugene E. Kinkelaar of Elton, LA. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Dodge Caravan driven by Kinkelarr and a 2014 John Deere tractor with a disk plow attachment driven by 24-year-old Joshua Dean Luntsford of Fenton, were both traveling north on US Hwy 165. For reasons unknown, Kinkelaar struck the rear of the John Deere tractor. Despite being properly restrained, Kinkelaar sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner’s Office. Luntsford was treated at the scene for minor injuries sustained during the crash. Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis.
