TROOP D NEWS RELEASE April 30, 2019 A Two-Vehicle Crash Earlier this Month Leads to Death of Vehicle Passenger Calcasieu Parish – On April 18, 2019, at 12:08 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 385 about ¼ mile south of E. Friesen Road. The preliminary investigation revealed a 1997 GMC pickup truck driven by 92-year-old Edward W. Milsted Jr. of Lake Charles was traveling south on LA Hwy 385. Milsted failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left into a private driveway and turned into the path of a northbound 2006 Dodge pickup truck driven by 38-year-old Lancey P. Conner of Iowa. The vehicle Milsted was driving was struck on the passenger side by the vehicle driven by Conner. The front seat passenger in Milsted’s vehicle, 91-year-old Betty C. Milsted sustained moderate injuries. Edward Milsted Jr. sustained minor injuries. Both were properly restrained at the time of the crash and were transported to a Lake Charles area hospital for treatment. Edward Milsted Jr. was cited for failure to yield while turning. Conner and her front seat passenger, 36-year-old Lance K. Gaspard of Lake Charles were both properly restrained and were not injured. Conner was cited for driving under suspension. On April 29, 2019, Troop D was notified by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office that Betty C. Milsted had succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
