Person of Interest in Franklin Homicide Leads Troopers on Pursuit on I-10

Jefferson Davis Parish – On September 2, 2019, Louisiana State Police Troop I received information from the Franklin Police Department in reference to a homicide that occurred in their city limits at approximately 9:00 a.m.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Troopers located a person of interest in the homicide, identified as 36-year-old Trinity Daqwan Coleman of Franklin, Louisiana, driving a silver Cadillac CTS on I-10 near Crowley in Acadia Parish. Troopers stopped the car but Coleman refused to exit. Coleman then drove off and began traveling west on I-10 resulting in a pursuit. The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. As the Cadillac entered Jefferson Davis Parish Troopers successfully deployed spike strips causing the tires to deflate, but Coleman still refused to stop.

After a few minutes Coleman pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of I-10 in Welsh where he began to exchange gunfire with the driver of another vehicle, identified as 57-year-old Clarence Fine Jr. of Jeanerette, Louisiana, who was stopped in the westbound lanes of travel. No one was reportedly struck in the exchange of gunfire. Coleman then continued traveling west on I-10 and came to a stop on the roadway about 3 miles west of Welsh and refused to exit the vehicle. After a 2 ½ hour standoff, Coleman surrendered and was taken into custody.

Coleman was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail for attempted second degree murder and illegal discharge of a weapon. Additional charges are possible.

Fine was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail for attempted second degree murder and illegal discharge of a weapon.

The pursuit lasted approximately 57 minutes. The standoff resulted in the closure of I-10 eastbound and westbound near Welsh for approximately 2 ½ hours. No injuries were reported and one LSP vehicle was damaged during the pursuit.

The Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Welsh Police Department assisted.
