| TROOP D NEWS RELEASE May 11, 2018 Unrestrained Lake Charles Man Dies from Crash Injuries JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH — A Lake Charles man died this afternoon as the result of injuries sustained in a crash last month in Jefferson Davis Parish. On April 28, 2018, at 1:39 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Panchoville Road at Theo Road in Jefferson Davis Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Honda Accord driven by 46-year-old Michael Wayne Daigle of Lake Charles was traveling south on Panchoville Road when the vehicle traveled off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned onto its roof. Daigle was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported from the scene with critical injuries and had been hospitalized until his death this afternoon. A passenger in the vehicle was injured as well. A toxicology sample was obtained from Daigle and was submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. In the event of a crash, the choice to not wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Unfortunately, some people don’t get the message until it’s too late. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to wear a seat belt in every seating position, day or night. In 2018, Troop D has investigated 11 fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths.
