TROOP A NEWS RELEASE
March 19, 2018
Many Man Dies after being Ejected in Pointe Coupee Parish Crash

Livonia Shortly before 8:00 am on March 19, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a three vehicle fatality crash on US 190 east of LA 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 43-year-old Eric Knippers of Many.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Knippers was traveling eastbound on US 190 in a 2003 Ford F-150. For unknown reasons, Knippers’ vehicle struck the opening in the guardrail. Knippers was ejected from his vehicle as it began to rotate counter clockwise in the eastbound lanes of US 190. Knippers’ vehicle struck a 2013 GMC 3500 driven by 42-year-old Jeremy Horner of Livonia. After being ejected, Knippers was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 36-year-old Daniel Revilla of Destin, FL.

Knippers was unrestrained and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe Coupee Parish Coroner’s Office. Horner and Revilla were properly restrained and were not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash, but a toxicology sample will be taken from all drivers for analysis.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
