TROOP D NEWS RELEASE March 6, 2018 Motorcyclist Killed in Calcasieu Parish Last Night CALCASIEU PARISH — A Sulphur man is dead after a vehicle turned in front of the motorcycle he was riding last night. On March 5 2018, shortly after 9:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on US Highway 90 east of Sulphur. The initial investigation revealed 42-year-old Raymond Wayne Ravia of Sulphur was traveling west on a 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when an eastbound 2014 Nissan Altima driven by 20-year-old Kateland Denise Williams of Lake Charles turned in front of him. The motorcycle then struck the passenger side of the car causing Ravia to be ejected from the motorcycle. Ravia was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. He was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. Williams was transported from the scene with minor injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. Motorcycles are smaller than other vehicles and are more difficult to see. Drivers are asked to always watch for motorcycles. In 2018, Troop D has investigated 5 fatal crashes resulting in 5 deaths.
