TROOP D NEWS RELEASE Unrestrained Lake Charles Man Killed in Calcasieu Parish Crash Calcasieu Parish – A man from Lake Charles died this morning following a single vehicle crash. On October 14, 2018, before 3:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash on LA Hwy 3256 east of LA Hwy 397 in Calcasieu Parish. The initial investigation revealed a 2012 Kia Rio was traveling east on LA Hwy 3256 near Hungerford Road at the time of the crash when the vehicle entered a left hand curve and ran off the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck a tree causing the driver 32-year-old Errol J. Wilson II of Lake Charles to be partially ejected. Wilson was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Wilson and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. Troop D has investigated 22 fatal crashes resulting in 22 deaths in 2018. Contact Information: | |||
