TROOP D NEWS RELEASE Beauregard Parish – A vehicle passenger died this afternoon following a two vehicle crash south of DeRidder. On October 23, 2018, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash on US Highway 171 north of Louisiana Highway 26 in Beauregard Parish. The initial investigation revealed a 2015 GMC Sierra was traveling north on US 171 when, for reasons still under investigation, the pickup traveled across the median and collided with a southbound 2017 Toyota Prius head-on. The front seat passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver was not injured. The driver of the 2015 GMC Sierra received minor injuries. All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the GMC was charged with careless operation. The crash remains under investigation.
