TROOP D NEWS RELEASE UPDATE October 24, 2018 Deceased Vehicle Occupant Identified Beauregard Parish – The passenger who died in yesterday’s crash on US 171 near DeRidder has been identified as 68-year-old Connie Moody of Lake Charles. The Toyota she was in was driven by 68-year-old James Moody of Lake Charles. The GMC pickup that crossed the median was driven by 57-year-old Rhonda Cooley of DeRidder. She has been charged with careless operation. The crash remains under investigation. TROOP D NEWS RELEASE October 23, 2018 Head-on Crash in Beauregard Parish Kills Vehicle Passenger Beauregard Parish – A vehicle passenger died this afternoon following a two vehicle crash south of DeRidder. On October 23, 2018, shortly after 3:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two vehicle crash on US Highway 171 north of Louisiana Highway 26 in Beauregard Parish. The initial investigation revealed a 2015 GMC Sierra was traveling north on US 171 when, for reasons still under investigation, the pickup traveled across the median and collided with a southbound 2017 Toyota Prius head-on. The front seat passenger in the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver was not injured. The driver of the 2015 GMC Sierra received minor injuries. All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts. Names are being withheld pending notification of family members. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the GMC was charged with careless operation. The crash remains under investigation.
