| TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 26, 2018 Pursuit Leads to DWI Fourth Offense Arrest CALCASIEU PARISH – A man from the Calcasieu Parish community of Hayes has been arrested on several charges including 4th offense DWI after refusing to stop his vehicle for a State Trooper yesterday evening. On Saturday, August 25, 2018, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a Trooper assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D observed a black Dodge pickup traveling 82 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile per hour zone on Louisiana Highway 14 near the community of Holmwood. The driver, later identified as 33-year-old Michael A. Thomas of Hayes, Louisiana, refused to stop and accelerated to speeds of up to 100 miles per hour before stopping in a field at the end of Nunez Road in the community of Bell City. Thomas exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Troopers immediately established a perimeter with assistance from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO). A CPSO canine was deployed which located and apprehended Thomas. Thomas was charged with DWI fourth offense, aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation, speeding, and driving under suspension. He was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.
