Motorcyclist Succumbs to Injuries Sustained in Pointe Coupee Parish Crash

Ventress At approximately 1:45 pm on May 3, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle serious injury crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on LA Hwy 415 north of LA Hwy 416 in Pointe Coupee Parish. The crash took the life of 62 year old Donald R. Major of Ventress, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Major was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 415 on a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle. As Major entered a left hand curve, the motorcycle ran off the roadway to the right for unknown reasons. Major was ejected from the motorcycle as a result.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a safety helmet Major suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene by Acadian Ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Shortly after 8:30 am on May 6, 2015, while at OLOL Major succumbed to injuries received in the crash. Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash.

Troopers urge motorcyclists of all ages and experience levels to take extra precautions while riding and ensure that they are properly prepared and trained for a variety of riding conditions. Through participation in certified training programs, riders are educated on safe riding practices such as being visible, dressing for safety, applying effective riding strategies, and knowing the capabilities and limitations of their motorcycle. Motorcyclists are taught how to apply these safety practices to not only avoid being involved in a crash but to greatly reduce the chance of injury should a crash occur.
