Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash

Calcasieu Parish – On April 20, 2021, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on US Hwy 90 east of PPG Drive in Calcasieu Parish. The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Cassie Nicole Brockman of Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Toyota Camry, driven by Brockman, was traveling west on I-10 prior to exiting onto US 90. For unknown reasons, the Toyota ran off the right side of the roadway and onto a steep embankment. After traveling onto the embankment, the Toyota rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof on the roadway.

Brockman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

A toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt.

Troop D has investigated 7 fatal crashes resulting in 7 deaths in 2021.
