Driver Succumbs to Injuries Received in Calcasieu Parish Crash

Bell City – On December 3, 2020, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle, serious injury crash at the intersection of LA Hwy 397 (Helms Road) and Ward Line Road in Calcasieu Parish. The crash ultimately resulted in the death of 35-year-old Lacy Anne Boutte of Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant, driven by Boutte, was traveling north on Ward Line Road. At the same time, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on LA 397. After stopping at the stop sign, Boutte entered the intersection, and was struck on the left side by the Chevrolet as she attempted to turn left onto LA 397.

Boutte was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and sustained serious injuries. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet was properly restrained and was not injured. This crash remains under investigation.

On December 12, 2020, Troop D was notified that Boutte had succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash.

Louisiana state law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day or night. Statistics show the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained but the decision not to wear a seat belt can have deadly consequences. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear a seat belt.

Troop D has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 31 deaths in 2020.
