Motorcyclist Dies in Two Vehicle Crash in Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish At approximately 11:30 am on June 4, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 43 north of LA 442 in Livingston Parish. The crash took the life of 42 year old Walter R. Booker Jr. of Clinton, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Booker was driving a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on LA 43. At the same time, 54 year old Stephen Vaughn of Amite, LA was also traveling southbound on LA 43 in a 2016 Freightliner truck. Vaughn had come to a stop preparing to make a left turn onto Horseshoe Rd. As Booker was coming out of a right hand curve, he failed to come to a stop. Booker’s motorcycle then skidded across the center line into the northbound lane. Vaughn had already began making his left turn and Booker’s motorcycle struck the Freightliner on the driver’s side.

Despite the fact that Booker was wearing a safety helmet, he suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Booker was transported to North Oaks Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. A toxicology sample was taken from Booker and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Vaughn was given a chemical breath test for intoxication and was not impaired.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorcyclist that Louisiana law requires that a US DOT approved helmet must be worn while operating a motorcycle on Louisiana highways. Troopers also encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses teach safe riding practices and help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur.
