Original Release

Lake Charles – On November 11, 2020, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on LA Hwy 14 just west of Corbina Road in Calcasieu Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of an unknown female pedestrian.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as the female pedestrian was walking in the middle of the westbound lane of LA 14. At the same time, the driver of a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado who was traveling west on LA 14, struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to an area hospital where she later succumbed to those injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was properly restrained and was not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet showed no signs of impairment. Toxicology samples were taken from the driver and pedestrian and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians.

Troop D has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 27 deaths in 2020.
