Crash in Moss Bluff Kills One and Injures Two

MOSS BLUFF, LA – One person was killed and two others were injured after a two-vehicle crash in Calcasieu Parish last night.

On December 29, 2015, at about 7:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 171 near You Winn Road in the community of Moss Bluff. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Dodge pickup driven by 38-year-old Brandon Guzman of Moss Bluff was traveling north on U.S. 171 when, for unknown reasons, the truck he was driving entered the center turn lane then immediately began to cross the southbound lanes of travel. A 2007 Dodge pickup driven by 22-year-old Richard Collins of Lake Charles was traveling south on U.S. 171 in the left lane and struck the passenger side of the truck driven by Guzman.

A passenger in the truck driven by Guzman, 39-year-old James LeDoux of Moss Bluff, was not wearing a seat belt and was critically injured. LeDoux was transported to a Lake Charles hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Guzman, who was wearing a seat belt, and Collins, who was not wearing a seat belt, were transported to area hospitals with moderate injuries.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear their seat belt.

Troop D has investigated 29 fatal crashes resulting in 31 fatalities this year.
