TROOP D NEWS RELEASE October 17, 2015 Head-On Crash in Calcasieu Parish Kills Two People LEBLEU SETTLEMENT, LA – A head-on crash in Calcasieu Parish claimed the lives of two people this morning. On October 17, 2015, at 06:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 397 about a mile north of Interstate Highway 10 near the community of LeBleu Settlement. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Cortny Paul Vidalier of Rayne was traveling north on LA 397 when, for unknown reasons, the pickup truck crossed the centerline into the opposing lane of travel. The pickup truck then collided head-on with a southbound Hyundai Genesis driven by 30-year-old Erin Michel Atlow of Lake Charles. After the collision, both vehicles were spun around and traveled into ditches along each side of the highway. The pickup truck caught fire and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. There were no other occupants in the vehicles. Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 25 fatal crashes resulting in 27 fatalities this year. | |||
