TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 26, 2015 Donaldsonville Man Dies after Rear-Ending 18-Wheeler on LA 3089 Donaldsonville, LA – Shortly before 11:00 am on June 26, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash that occurred on LA 3089 north of LA 70 in Donaldsonville, LA. The crash took the life of 30 year old Oscar Bennett III of Donaldsonville, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 57 year old Carlos Julien of Donaldsonville, LA was traveling southbound on LA 3089 in a 2006 Kenworth 18-wheeler. Julien began slowing as he prepared to make a left turn through the median cross over. At the same time, Bennett was traveling southbound on LA 3089 in a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. For unknown reasons, Bennett failed to reduce his speed and struck the trailer of Julien’s 18-wheeler. Bennett was unrestrained and received fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Julien was restrained and was treated at Prevost Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. A toxicology sample was taken from both drivers and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers want to inform motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Wearing a seat belt greatly reduces the chances of receiving serious injuries in a crash as well. Contact Information: TFC Bryan Lee | |||
