TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 9, 2105 Head-On Crash in Calcasieu Parish Kills Woman from Starks CALCASIEU PARISH, LA – A heads-on crash claimed the life of a woman from Starks this morning. On September 9, 2015, at 11:22 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 109 approximately 5 miles north of Interstate Highway 10 in Calcasieu Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Ford truck driven by 23-year-old Casey J. Barnett of Beaumont, Texas was traveling north on LA 109 when the vehicle ran off the road in a curve. Barnett lost control of the vehicle as it traveled back onto the highway and began to rotate. The vehicle then struck a southbound 2001 Dodge pickup driven by 51-year-old Joy Pruett of Starks head-on. Pruett was transported from the scene with serious injuries and died at a Lake Charles hospital. Barnett was not injured. Driver distraction on the part of Barnett is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Troop D has investigated 20 fatal crashes resulting in 21 fatalities this year. | |||
