TROOP D NEWS RELEASE September 13, 2015 Impairment Suspected in Fatal Jefferson Davis Parish Motorcycle Crash JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH, LA – A Lake Charles man died late this afternoon after he lost control of the motorcycle he was operating. On September 13, 2015, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on Louisiana Highway 383 1/10th of a mile south of TV Tower Road in rural Jefferson Davis Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by 38-year-old Jared H. Daigle of Lake Charles was traveling west on LA 383 when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle traveled off of the road. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle traveled about 200 feet before striking a culvert causing Daigle to be ejected. Daigle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash and a toxicology sample was obtained for analysis. Daigle was wearing an approved helmet at the time of the crash but did not have a motorcycle endorsement. The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol affects those skills essential to riding a motorcycle - balance and coordination. Statistics show that the percentage of intoxicated motorcycle riders in fatal crashes is greater than the percentage of intoxicated drivers on our roads. Motorcycle riders are urged to always ride smart and sober. This is the fourth motorcyclist to die in a crash investigated by Troop D this year. All of these deaths were the result of single-vehicle crashes. | |||
