Pursuit of Motorcycle on I-10 Leads to Arrest of Lafayette Man

WELSH, LA – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D arrested a man from Lafayette today for multiple offenses after he refused to stop after committing a traffic violation.

On March 22, 2016, shortly before 10:30 a.m., a Trooper assigned to Troop D in Lake Charles observed a motorcycle impeding the flow of traffic by remaining in the left lane of I-10 Eastbound near the town of Iowa. The Trooper attempted to stop the motorcyclist, later identified as 29-year-old Luis Santiago-Rosario of Lafayette, but the motorcyclist instead accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and began passing vehicles on the shoulder.

With help from the public, Troopers learned Santiago-Rosario exited I-10 in Welsh and headed south. With assistance from the Welsh Police Department, Troopers began searching the area and located Santiago-Rosario in the town of Welsh. Santiago-Rosario was placed under arrest and processed at the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office. He was then transferred and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

Santiago-Rosario faces a variety of charges in Calcasieu Parish and Jefferson Davis Parish including reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to keep right upon a multi-lane highway, speeding, improper lane usage, switched license plate, no driver's license, no motorcycle endorsement, improper equipment, no insurance, and resisting an officer.

No injuries or damage was reported.
