| TROOP D NEWS RELEASE February 27, 2016 Crash on US 165 Kills Unrestrained Driver JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH, LA – One person was killed and another injured after a two-vehicle crash in the community of Woodlawn last night. On February 26, 2016, at 10:25 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 165 at Louisiana Highway 101 about six miles south of Fenton. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 70-year-old William L. Talbot of Iowa, Louisiana, was traveling east on LA 101. Talbot stopped at a stop sign at US 165 then proceeded across the highway into the path of a northbound 18-wheeler. The Silverado was struck on the passenger side by the 18-wheeler causing the pickup truck to flip and land on its roof, initially trapping the two occupants. Talbot was transported to a hospital in Lake Charles where he died upon arrival due to his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt. The passenger in the Silverado was wearing a seat belt and was transported to a hospital in Lafayette with moderate injuries. The 18-wheeler driver was not injured. Toxicology samples were obtained from the drivers and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires motorists to wear a seat belt in every seating position, front seat and back seat, day and night. While every crash is not survivable, wearing a seat belt is the most effective thing vehicle occupants can do to minimize the risk of injury in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always wear their seat belt. | |||
