TROOP D NEWS RELEASE August 7, 2015 Head-on Crash Leaves One Unrestrained Driver Dead and another Injured DE RIDDER, LA – One man is dead and another is injured after a head-on crash this morning in northern Beauregard Parish. On August 7, 2015, shortly after 5:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 3226 approximately one mile north of US Highway 190. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2010 Ram pickup truck was traveling south on LA 3226 when the driver, 25-year-old Edmond Victor, III of Leesville, crossed the centerline of the highway for unknown reasons. The other vehicle, a northbound 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 54-year-old Gary Blair of Merryville, was struck head-on. Blair was pronounced dead at the scene by the Beauregard Parish Coroner’s Office. Victor was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital. Neither was wearing a seat belt. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. Last year in our state, 58 percent of motorists who died in crashes were not wearing a seat belt. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Motorists are encouraged to make the smart choice and to always wear their seat belt. Troop D has investigated 15 fatal crashes resulting in 16 fatalities this year. | |||
