IOWA, LAAn overnight single-vehicle crash near the town of Iowa has claimed the life of a Lake Charles man and has seriously injured a Lake Charles woman.

On April 2, 2015, at 2:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 165 just north of Interstate Highway 10 in Jefferson Davis Parish. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2009 Dodge pickup truck was traveling south on U.S. 165 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle traveled approximately 250 feet in a ditch before striking a culvert and flipping end over end.

The driver, 52-year-old John A. Hebert of Lake Charles, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger in the vehicle, 50-year-old Lisa Ann Hebert of Lake Charles, was transported from the scene with serious injuries.

A toxicology sample was obtained from the driver and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distrtaction.gov.
