TROOP D NEWS RELEASE March 13, 2015 Unrestrained Woman Dies in Allen Parish Crash ALLEN PARISH – A woman from Pitkin died this morning after losing control of the vehicle she was driving. On March 13, 2015, at 6:37 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Sam Cloud Road about 2.2 miles north of Louisiana Highway 10. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling south on Sam Cloud Road when the driver, 47-year-old Dawn Michelle McGee of Pitkin, failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle traveled off of the road and struck a tree stump causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof. McGee, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen Parish Coroner’s Office. A toxicology sample was obtained from McGee and will be submitted for analysis in order to determine impairment. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana law requires vehicle occupants to be restrained in all seating positions, day and night. Wearing a seat belt on every trip, whether it’s short or long, is the most effective thing motorists can do to protect themselves in the event of a crash. Motorists are encouraged to always make the smart choice and to wear their seatbelt. Troop D has investigated 6 fatal crashes resulting in 6 deaths this year. | |||
