TROOP D NEWS RELEASE January 17, 2015 DeRidder Man Dies after Crashing into Tree On January 16, 2015, at 5:53 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1147 about 3 miles south of Louisiana Highway 26 in Beauregard Parish that claimed the life of a DeRidder man. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Mazda pickup driven by 69-year-old Donald C. Rollins of DeRidder was traveling east on LA 1147 when, for unknown reasons, the truck Rollins was driving ran off the road and struck a tree. Rollins was transported to a local hospital with what were initially thought to be minor injuries. He was later transported to a hospital in Alexandria. On the evening of January 17, 2015, Troop D received notification that Rollins had succumbed to internal injuries sustained during the crash. Rollins was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Rollins and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, inattentive and distracted driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state.
