TROOP D NEWS RELEASE

November 23, 2014
Lake Charles Teen Killed in Calcasieu Parish Crash

Calcasieu Parish – Last night, a crash involving two vehicles killed a teenager from Lake Charles, LA and injured a woman from Jennings, LA. Both of these individuals were wearing a seat belt.

Troopers responded to the crash around 7:15 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 90 at Boy’s Village Road. The crash involved a 2012 Toyota Scion, driven by Britney Anne Trahan (W/F 16 yrs) and a 2010 Ford pickup, driven by Sharlene Ann Parsley-Istre (W/F 52 yrs). The Toyota was northbound on Boy’s Village Road when Trahan failed to yield at a stop sign prior to entering US Hwy 90. This action resulted in the Ford, which was eastbound on US Hwy 90, colliding with the Toyota.

Trahan was pronounced dead.

Parsley-Istre received minor injuries and was transported to Jennings American Legion Hospital.

Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, seatbelts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and will greatly reduce the extent of injury.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continue to be leading causes of crashes in our state. Information on distracted driving may be found online at www.distrtaction.gov.

Troop D has investigated 16 fatal crashes resulting in 16 fatalities so far this year.
